Goodbye to poor train WiFi: Revolutionary mmWave solution for high-speed rail connectivity to showcase at InnoTrans

Press Release

Blu Wireless will be in Hall 4.1, stand 680

At this month’s InnoTrans event, Bristol-based Blu Wireless will present a joint demonstration with Westermo, following their recent strategic partnership.

This collaboration at InnoTrans, which takes place 24-27 September in Berlin, will feature Blu Wireless’ patented mmWave wireless technology, aimed at improving connectivity on trains which are notorious for their poor WiFi connection for passengers.

Mark Barrett, Chief Commercial Officer for Blu Wireless, said: “Our strategic partnership with Westermo marks a significant leap forward in addressing the persistent challenge of poor WiFi connectivity on trains.

“By combining Blu Wireless’s cutting-edge mmWave technology with Westermo’s robust product suite, we’re not just improving internet access – we’re revolutionising the entire passenger experience.

“Our joint demonstration at InnoTrans showcases how this collaboration delivers gigabit-speed data throughput with enhanced security, all while utilising cost-efficient unlicensed frequency bands.

“This solution represents the future of rail connectivity and we’re excited to bring it to the global market.”

The Blu Wireless mmWave wireless solution for rail networks offers high bandwidth and low latency connectivity between trackside and train. Delivering gigabit data throughput, enhanced security and a cost-efficient deployment by using the unlicensed frequency band at 57-71 GHz when integrated with Westermo’s product suite.

Blu Wireless’ solution is quick and easy to configure further strengthening Westermo’s onboard internet offering.

Blu Wireless invites Innotrans visitors to experience this joint demonstration, celebrating the recent successful deployment in the US high-speed transport market with the Caltrain commuter rail line.

Senior representatives from Blu Wireless and Westermo will be available at the InnoTrans to discuss the broader implications of this partnership and the future roadmap for mmWave technology in the global rail industry.
